Tapas Yoga Mat (made from water hyacinth plant fibers)
 
100% natural products made from water hyacinth fibers sourced and produced in the Mekong. The mats  are handwoven by veteran artisans in the western region of the Mekong Delta. Each Tapas mat is a unique product of the aunties and uncles in the region who live and breathe water hyacinth plants on a daily basis.
 
Whilst water hyacinth mats are not totally unique and can be found in other countries. The Tapas mat is enlivened with the richness and vitality of the Mekong river. The plant fibers are thicker and spongier than most other mats - creating a feeling like walking on a soft bed of grass – giving a feeling of direct connection to mother nature.
 
 
In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra’s, Tapas is one of the key Niyamas(observances). Tapas is often translated as self-discipline, austerity, or “burning”. We named this mat Tapas to encourage the practitioner to return to the simple, yogic lifestyle, to train and discipline the mind, and return to the most basic values of life.
